Interview with Eero about the Mexican flu!

When were you informed the gig must be cancelled, and what was told as the reason?

We were yesterday afternoon around 4 or 5 pm at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City when our manager Seppo Vesterinen called us, that there's a great chance the gig may be cancelled. It felt really strange, the preparations had gone very well and the venue is really great, and it's one of the gigs we've been looking forward to the most this spring. We're very popular in Mexico, and the possibility of the cancellation felt insane. But later in the afternoon the local authorities decided it's better to close all the theaters and cinemas and museums as a precaution to prevent the virus from spreading.


Apparently all of your gigs won't have to be cancelled in Mexico?

Not elsewhere, because the epidemic seems to affect apparently just Mexico City. Today we'll be performing in Monterrey and tomorrow in Guadalajara. At least part of the audience from the cancelled gig is coming over to the other gigs, which is a nice thing.


Have people been hysteric about the epidemic in the streets of Mexico City?

Actually we haven't had a chance to go to the streets, but in the newspapers there's been pictures about people wearing protective masks, which should help against the spreading of the infection. Apparently the masks are in a public distribution, as I saw a picture of a soldier handing them out for people in the cars. The situation seems to be taken seriously. Any of us hasn't panicked or anything, but as we don't know how dangerous it is and how easily the infection can spread, we are all worried and wondering what should we do next. Uncertainty is the hardest thing.

Cuando fueron informados de que el concierto debia ser cancelado, y cual fue la razon?

Eero: Estabamos ayer en la tarde al rededor de las 4 o 5 PM en el Auditorio Nacional en la Ciudad de Mexico cuando nuestro manager Seppo Vesterinen nos llamo, diciendo hay una gran probabilidad de que el concierto fuese cancelado. Se sintio muy raro, los preparativos ya se habian hecho todo estaba bien y el lugar es realmente bueno, y es uno de los conciertos que hemos estado esperando mas esta primavera. Somos muy populares en Mexico, y la posibilidad de la cancelacion era algo enfermo. Pero por la tarde las autoridades locales decidieron que era mejor cerrar todos los teatros, cines y museos como precaucion para prevenir la propagacion de el virus.

Aparentemente no todos los concirtos en Mexico fueron cancelados

Eero: No en los demas lugares, porque parece que la epidemia solo esta en afectando a la Ciudad de Mexico. Hoy nos estaremos presentando en Monterrey y mañana en Guadalajara. Una parte de la audiencia del concierto cancelado vendra a los otros conciertos, y eso es realmente lindo.

La gente ha estado histerica por la epidemia en las calles de la cuidad de Mexico?

Eero: En realidad no hemos tenido la oportunidad de salir a las calles, pero en los periodicos hay fotos de la gente usando cubrebocas, que deben de ayudar contra la propagacion de la infeccion. Aparentemente los cubrebocas los distribuyen a toda la gente, como vi en una foto de un soldado repartiendolos a la gente en los autos. La situacion se esta poninedo seria. Ninguno de nosotros estamos asustados, pero como no sabemos que tan peligroso es y que tan facil se propague la infeccion, estamos preocupados y nos preguntamos que tendremos que hacer despues.
